Just a quick update to say that we’ve pushed out a few small bug fixes to follow up on our Quicken support. We added more flexibility to our import process and fixed a few accuracy errors while importing from Quicken.

Thanks to our users for reporting these errors. Any other feedback, please let us know!

Today we’re rolling out the first major update since going live. This update contains major improvements to the bank transaction import functionality of Wiser Wallet:

Support for Quicken QFX/OFX format: We now support importing transactions to Wiser Wallet using the Quicken format. As you may be aware, this format is supported by almost every financial institution in the world. This means if your bank wasn’t supported previously – it probably is now, wherever you are in the world! Select “Quicken” when asked by your bank to export your transactions, and you’ll see the same option in Wiser Wallet to do your import.

Dynamic creation of budget entries: When you’re importing your transactions, you might discover that the transaction belongs to an entry in your budget that you haven’t created yet. In the past, you had to return to the Plan mode and create it there. No longer! You can now create budget entries and categories on the fly while importing your transactions. Simply click on the new icon beside the dropdown box, and we’ll let you create your entry without leaving the transaction import page.

We hope you’ll enjoy these new features!

We’re happy to announce that we’re reaching the end of our closed beta. Wiser Wallet had over 250 beta testers to help iron out all the bugs, give feedback on new features, and help us test our application. We’re quite happy with the feedback we’ve gotten, and as such we’re excited to announce that starting in early 2011, Wiser Wallet will be opened to everyone. Supporting all of Canada’s major financial institutions and both official languages is something no other product offers, and we’re excited to be able to share this with everyone.

Look for another announcement in early January 2011 when we’ll announce the public release of Wiser Wallet… just in time to get your budget back in shape after all the holidays!

We’ve recently pushed out a series of updates to the site and wanted to let you know about some of them! Some of these have been driven by the great feedback given by our users, so keep it coming.

Analyze improvements: It’s now easier to see exactly how much money you have left to spend based on your budget. We’ve refreshed the page, added a new color for “scheduled” expenses, and clearer analysis messages.

Scotiabank support: We now support Scotiabank for our bank transaction import feature. This brings our number of supported banks to nine, including the “Big Canadian Five”. So chances are we now support your bank!

Budget editing: We’ve made some changes to the backend to fix a few bugs and generally improve the way editing your budget entries works. Everything should be working much better now.

If you have any other ideas for features you’d like to see, or if something isn’t working quite right, let us know!

We’ve now added MBNA to our supported banks in Transaction Import. Additionally, we’ve made improvements such as stripping out phone numbers and store numbers from your transactions, so you’ll get clearer names automatically the next time you try to import in your budget.

Have any more suggestions for how we could improve the import feature? Let us know!
